Founded by trumpeter Mary Elizabeth Bowden, Seraph Brass aims to highlight female brass players and musicians from marginalized groups. Acclaimed for their high-level performances, the group, which often performs as a quintet, has received praise from notable critics like the American Record Guide and Gramophone. Their repertoire spans original transcriptions, new commissions, and classical works, including pieces by Catherine McMichael and Rene Orth, featured on their award-winning debut album Asteria. Seraph Brass also supports new compositions from a variety of contemporary composers and has performed works such as Rick DeJonge’s Prelude and Fantasy and James Stephenson’s Dodecafecta.
In addition to their performances, Seraph Brass is dedicated to music education, with members teaching at institutions like the University of North Texas and Shenandoah Conservatory. They engage in educational outreach during their tours and offer workshops on entrepreneurship and career development. The ensemble has toured globally, including events in Spain, Finland, South Korea, and China, and has performed at prestigious venues and festivals worldwide.

They are a Yamaha Performing Group and have played with major ensembles like the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, as well as with Adele on her North American tour.

“…an evening with Seraph Brass left me feeling richer, both intellectually and emotionally.”
