The Westerlies (Brass Quartet)
March 1, 2026 @ 3:00 pm
The Westerlies are a New York-based brass quartet known for blending jazz, classical, and folk traditions into a sound that defies genre and expectation. With Riley Mulherkar and Chloe Rowlands on trumpet, and Andy Clausen and Addison Maye-Saxon on trombone, the group performs with the precision of a string quartet and the energy of a rock band. Formed in 2011 and named after the west-to-east winds, they’ve appeared everywhere from Carnegie Hall to Coachella.

Recent seasons have included appearances at major festivals and collaborations with artists like Haley Heynderickx, Fleet Foxes, and Conrad Tao. Their 2023 album Move features works by Caroline Shaw and Nico Muhly, showcasing their commitment to new music. The 2024–2025 season included appearances with San Francisco Performances and Celebrity Series of Boston, a residency at Montclair State University, and a performance at Merkin Hall in New York. Whether in concert halls or on indie stages, The Westerlies continue to push the boundaries of brass chamber music with creativity, charm, and bold musical vision.
“Chamber music with bracing melodies and, crucially, an undeniable sense of fun.”
